The pituitary gland is located at the base of the brain and hypothalamus attached to part of the neuroendocrine system which is formed by a series of glands (thyroid, parathyroid, tonsils, pituitary, adrenal gland epiphysis) which synthesize and release hormones into the torrent blood.
The pituitary gland consists of two parts that work differently: the posterior pituitary or neurohypophysis , which is responsible for storing and releasing hormones synthesized by the hypothalamus (oxytocin and vasopressin). And the anterior pituitary gland or adenohypophysis , that acts as a secretory gland itself.
