Striatum

The striatum comprises: caudate , putamen and globus pallidus . The striatum is within the cerebral hemispheres in the base of each hemisphere and its function is related to body movement. This nucleus is part of a larger functional system called the basal ganglia system , consisting of the striatum, subthalamus and substantia nigra.Injury to any of these structures can lead to alterations in the control of movement (tremor, tics, etc..).   the caudate C-shaped viewed from the side, follows the course of the lateral ventricle. The set of the caudate and putamen is also called neostriatum , and globus pallidus paleoestriado .
