Amygdalas are part of the endocrine system, which is formed by a set of glands (thyroid, parathyroid, tonsils, pituitary, pineal gland and adrenal gland) that synthesize and release hormones into the bloodstream. Today it is known that the hypothalamus is responsible for the control of hormone secretion, hormones and in turn affect the functioning of the nervous system, which is why the whole of the two systems are called neuroendocrine system.
The endocrine glands control a large number of physiological functions such as metabolism, homeostasis, growth, reproduction, pain, etc.., But also are involved in human behavior, specifically on emotions, memory, learning or even in pathologies such as depression, anxiety or anorexia nervosa.
